Skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing are wonderful ways to enjoy the winter landscape. Horseback trail rides are offered year-round at the Cedar Crest Stables. Riders can choose from Alpine views, a tipee top ride, a canyon ride, or a ride to the waterfalls. The Sandia Peak Tramway at the nearby Sandia Ski Resort offers a spectacular view of the area’s deep canyons, and was voted Best Bird’s Eye View by Reader’s Digest.

The Prince of Peace Lutheran School is a private school in Cedar Crest that serves children from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. Older residents can earn one of about 200 undergraduate and graduate degrees at the nearby University of New Mexico. For medical care, there are three hospitals within 15 miles of Cedar Crest: the Lovelace Women’s Hospital, the VA New Mexico Healthcare System, and the Presbyterian Hospital. Residents also have convenient access to both domestic and international destinations via Amtrak or air travel in nearby Albuquerque.
